HOUSING DEVELOPMENT ON LANGE ALLÉE, VIENNA
1993-96

A solid, angular tower stands up against the sweeping corner building on Polgarstrasse, thereby at once defining a "hard" and "soft" corner. Expressive colouring strengthens the import of the sculpted elements. On the southern elevation, there is a medical practice and a police station on the plinth floor. Beyond this is a series of patios which are screened from noise.

Lofty stair towers structure the individual buildings. The barrel roof and glazed loggia towers, as well as the monumental gable walls, should be understood as a metaphor for the neighbouring industrial architecture.
